SEVERAL DIFFERENCES EXIST BETWEEN A LABRADOODLE AND THE AUSTRALIAN COBBERDOG

There are many things that differentiate the Australian Cobberdog from a Labradoodle: the breed's objective, breeding program, name, origin of the breed, appearance, temperament, characteristics, types, ability and achievements…Here, you can find all of these differences explained.
THE OBJECTIVE
OF THE BREED
The objective of the Australian Cobberdog breed is to obtain hypoallergenic dogs with an even temperament and great potential to carry out work and tasks for therapy and assistance. Although the objetive of the Labradoodle was initially the same, today its objective is purely aesthetic. This has led to infusions, making for a more nervous and unpredictable dog.

THE BREEDING
PROGRAM

The criteria for breeding the Australian Cobberdog is regimented by a single breed standard. All of the dogs used for breeding are registered with the MDBA, and the pedigrees are issued by the same institution, which ensures total control. On the other hand, Labradoodles can be bred by anyone without having to demonstrate ascendency of the dogs or following the breed's standard or objective.

THE
NAME

The name Australian Cobberdog references its objective as a breed.  Cobber is a colloquial way to say friend in Australia, making the Cobberdog a dog-friend and alluding to its friendly nature and its mission as a therapy and assistance dog. Labradoodle, on the other hand, refers to the initial cross  made by Wally Conron between a Labrador and Poodle.

THE ORIGEN OF THE DOG
The Labradoodle arose from the cross between a Labrador and a Poodle to obtain a guide dog for a blind woman whose husband was allergic to dogs. The Australian Cobberdog's origins lay in the need to restore this initial objective for the Labradoodle, which, due to its popularity, began massive breeding. This led to a complete loss of its hyperallergenic and temperament characteristics.

APPEARANCE
The appearance of the Australian Cobberdog is very stable. Its abundant fur is curly or wavy, and very soft to the touch. It gives the general impression of being a huggable stuffed animal. But when we talk about a Labradoodle, it is very difficult to establish a generality. It is supposed to resemble the Australian Cobberdog, but since there is no homogenosity among its breeders, the Labradoodle can have rough, straight hair that is even short.
TEMPERAMENT
The temperament of the Australian Cobberdog is even, with great potential to carry out therapy and assistance work. Very affectionate, it is always attentive to humans. Regarding the Labradoodle, it is difficult to make this generalization, since it is usually much more nervous. This is due to the infusion of the Cocker Spaniel by some breeders for aesthetic reasons, which in turn caused an upheaval in its even temperament.

PREDICTABLE CHARACTERISTICS
The Australian Cobberdog has its own DNA sequence, which is maintained stable throughout the generations. This is what ensures that the characteristics of the breed are maintained in each litter and allows us to talk about predictable aspects of the future puppies. The Labradoodle doesn't have its own DNA sequence repeated in parents and offspring, so it is not very predictable.
TYPES
There is no consensus among   Labradoodle breeders. Some prefer the first generation cross (Labrador x Poodle), while others breed with Labradoodles and may include mixes of other breeds, such as the Cocker Spaniel and lrish Terrier. In contrast, the Australian Cobberdog, has only one type and its breeding is totally supervised by the MDBA to guarantee good breeder practices.

ACHIEVEMENTS

The Australian Cobberdog is the first breed in the worlddeveloped for its great potential to serve as a therapy dog or assistance dog. Labradoodles, on the other hand, initiated an indulgent fashion to cross dog breeds with no breed objective other than aesthetics. This was the most powerful reason that made Wally Conron regret having created the Labradoodle.
